1. My definition of research is finding more detail of the topic I am interested in. This research can occur with either not knowing anything about the topic or having an idea of if and wanting to know more about it. I am still getting the hang of researching and the different types of them. The type of research that I am super familiar with is scientific. I would love to branch out more and become a better writer in other researches too.
2. The piece I read from the course reader is "Using TikTok and Instagram, college students push the science behind covid vaccines." by Susan Svrluga. This was publish over the past year; August 20, 2020. I decided to pick and read this article because social media catches my eye a lot. My generation and I are so involved in it because we all grew up with it. The argument of this piece of writing is that social media, specifically Instagram and TikTok, can be used to provide anyone information about the vaccine. Due to social media having such a huge impact in the world now, news gets read and spread quicker that way compared to magazines and other platforms. Social media is being used to educate others to understand what is going on with the vaccine. One of the classmates, Callinan who goes to a University, reminded everyone that Covid is still occurring. Callinan states "We want to have our college experience back -- have football games and everything" (2). Although students, parents and others may have their own belief, but they do need to understand that this may be better for our world in order for everything to go back to the way it used to be. We have to be okay with being uncomfortable in uncomfortable situations in order for us to grow. Sometimes others do not see the big picture either because they do not notice the little details within each post. Jordan Tralins who goes to school in Cornell University informs others that “Most people my age don’t typically spend a lot of time reading true scientific literature,” she said. “They really look at what’s on their social media, and that influences the way we feel” (2). I hope that moving forward, students, adults and others pay more attention to detail when they see or read something online. This will hopefully give them a better idea of what is going on with Covid and why the vaccine may be so beneficial. On the other hand, we as people do have to understand that not everyone is going to agree with wanting to get the vaccine.
