1. This is definitely one of my favorite memes because it brings back my younger self getting picked for either P.E. games or recess games in elementary/middle school. I always thought I was one of the coolest people whenever I got picked first for games because it made me think I was the best one there.
3a. Limor Shifman is a part of the Department of Communication at the Hebrew University. Her book is a scholarly monograph that is explains "a first step in bridging the yawning gap between (skeptic) academic and (enthusiastic) popular discourse about memes" (4). The reason illustrations are involved in this book is to show examples of memes in order for people to get a better understanding. As much as we want people to read our books, readers enjoy seeing pictures to see a full representation. Pictures provide us more entertainment within our readings. The purpose of pages 171-176 is to explain what memes are used for. They are "evolving as the language of the internet" (173). Memes have been used in multiple different ways to help society communicate with one another and share something special. The one that inspires me the most is the "politics of memetic participation" (172) because it made me realize that "each successful meme is a person" (172). Even though there is so little effort to make a picture and a caption funny, there is so much appreciation that needs to be shared. It goes to show how under-appreciated the small things are in the world. 3b. The article I chose to read was "How to Report on Internet Culture and the Teens Who Rule It" by Nina Westervelt . It explains how much society is on the internet every day and half the time, parents do not know half the things their children do. The internet has grown so fast in such a short period of time that each generation gets more involved. The article states that "a lot of young people, even the famous ones, are wary of the press". The internet has grown to make such a huge impact on each of our lives, which is why the article is so important to acknowledge in order for all of us to understand. The older the generations are, the less they know about technology because they were not raised with it compared to the younger ones. Older generations do however put in the effort to be on the same page and catch along with technology, however it is not their thing. Their thing was more handmade such as reading the news through a newspaper, not through a screen. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/16/style/taylor-lorenz-internet-culture-reporting.html
